Description
The Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is a reflection of Snowden Vineyards' mountain estate, bringing together fruit from three distinct vineyard blocks nestled in the Vaca Mountains above Napa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon from the cool, east-facing Lost Orchard Vineyard at 850 feet and the warmer, west-facing Pool Block at 650 feet is complemented by Merlot from the Lost Vineyard at 800 feet. Together, these rhyolite-rich volcanic soils and varied exposures create a wine of depth, balance, and site-driven character. The exceptionally long and even 2023 growing season allowed for extended hang time and gradual ripening, resulting in remarkable complexity and refinement. Hand harvested between October 3 and 13, the fruit was fermented exclusively with native yeasts, aged for 19 months in French oak barrels—30% new—and bottled unfined. Composed of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot, the 2023 opens with inviting aromas of black currant, plum, and tobacco. Dark cherry and cedar notes emerge across a structured palate framed by seamless, finely woven tannins. A touch of Merlot lends approachability and balance, while the mountain-grown Cabernet provides the wine's quiet power and longevity. Awarded 94 points by Antonio Galloni of Vinous, who praised its "poise, grace and character," The Ranch is both immediately compelling and built to evolve beautifully throughout the next decade. #SNOWDENFEATURE
