Description
I love the wines from Villion winery in South Africa for their complexity and old-world style. Their Blanc de l'Atlantique is a unique blend of 75% Viognier, 12.5% Chenin Blanc, and 12.5% Chardonnay. The wine was barrel aged in small French oak barrels for 7 months to emphasize the enticing perfume of the blend, while the Chenin was skin fermented to add a silky texture to the wine. On the nose you get explosive notes of jasmine, floral, and cinnamon spiced peach slices. The initial palate is smooth and silky with some pitted fruits and vanilla spice, followed by lively acidity that helps to focus the flavors and lead to a long, dry finish. Delicious on its own or pair with grilled fish, spicy cuisine, and soft ripe cheeses. - Drew Fuller
