One Bottle, Endless Possibilities: Maggie's Farm Falernum

THE BOTTLE: Maggie's Farm Falernum made in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

 

What is Falernum? 


A ginger, lime, and clove liqueur made with a rum base. Maggie’s Farm Falernum is made using all fresh ingredients (fresh ground ginger, hand-grated lime zest, and whole toasted cloves). A staple ingredient in classic Tiki cocktails. It’s having a resurge in popularity! Tikiphiles – this one’s for you!

 


Ways to Use It:

Ingredients:

 

2 oz Maggie’s Farm 50/50 Dark Rum  
¾ oz fresh lime juice 
½ oz Maggie’s Farm Falernum  
½ oz Dapper Baron Triple Sec 
¼ oz simple syrup 
 
Directions:
Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a cocktail glass. 


(A tiki classic, named as a WWII victory signal) 

Ingredients:

 

1½ oz Cihuatan Aged Rum  
½ oz Hamilton Demerara Rum 86pf 
½ oz Maggie’s Farm Falernum 
½ oz honey syrup (1:1 honey to water) 
½ oz lime juice 
¼ oz Pierre Ferrand Curacao 375ml 
1 dash Angostura bitters 
1 dash St. Elizabeth's Allspice Dram 375ml (optional but traditional).

 

Directions: Shake with ice and strain into a tiki glass with crushed ice. Garnish with three cherries (“dots”) and a pineapple leaf (“dash”).

 

(A tiki twist on a Negroni) 

 

Ingredients:

 

1½ oz Appleton Rum 
¾ oz Campari 
½ oz Foro Rosso Vermouth 
¼ oz Maggie’s Farm Falernum

 

Directions: Stir with ice and strain into a rocks glass.  Orange peel garnish. Bitter, spicy, tropical. 

 


(Low-proof)

 

Ingredients:

 

1 oz Maggie’s Farm Falernum 
1 oz Carpano Punt e Mes Vermouth 
¾ oz fresh lime juice 
½ oz Osborne Amontillado sherry 
club soda

 

Directions: Combine all ingredients except soda water into an ice-filled shaker. Shake until well-chilled. Strain into a highball glass with fresh ice and top with soda water. Garnish with lime wedge and mint sprig. 

 


Ingredients:

 

2 oz Maggie’s Farm 50/50 Dark Rum 
½ oz of Maggie’s Farm Falernum 
¼ oz fresh lime juice 
3 dashes Angostura bitters 
 
Directions: Pour the rum, falernum, lime juice, and bitters into a lowball glass over ice and stir well. Squeeze in a fresh lime wedge and drop it in.
