One of the most reliable cellaring options is still Bordeaux, and from my experience working with many vintages of this wine, the iconic 2005 vintage is just about in a perfect place to start enjoying. We sourced a small quantity from the chateau so this went from their cellar, onto a boat, then to us. Château Pontet-Canet is one of the most respected estates in the region, and the accolades for this vintage are no exception: 98pts from Jeb Dunnuck, 96pts and a Top 100 wine of the year from Wine Spectator and 97+pts from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. If points aren’t your thing, I can say from having the 2005 back in 2019 that it was a stunner then; I can’t imagine how sexy it is now. - Peter Plaehn, Wine Buyer
