Stephan Muller, the current proprietor and winemaker, farms a number of excellent to exceptional vineyards near the village of Forst in Germany’s Pfalz region. 2017 was a vintage that emphasized the good qualities of these wines. Technically, the wine gives fruit, mineral, and a lively, refreshing finish. The not-so- technical description would include words like “Yummy” and “Wow – that’s refreshing!” Not surprisingly, this Riesling pairs incredibly well with food. Try this with savory dishes like classic roast chicken or grilled pork loin. But be warned! If you open a bottle before the meal starts, be sure you have a backup ready. Once you start, it’s hard to stop!

This mouthwatering, slatey, focused Mosel Riesling is a revelation! With 400 years of history, it is safe to say that the family at Selbach-Oster knows Riesling. Apple, pear, lime, loads of minerality, and a touch of sweetness make this bottling so satisfying. Unlike previous vintages that were aged in stainless, the 2018 spent its time developing in large, oak Fuder casks (neutral). The lively, bright acidity and cool sensation on the palate is both refreshing and playful. Juicy fruit and a stony, bright finish make this a classic Mosel Riesling. Sustainably farmed.
