Master Distiller Bill Lumsden had long dreamed of introducing the soft, mellow taste of cognac to Glenmorangie's single malt, but the power of the French oak casks had previously threatened to overwhelm its delicate, fruity spirit. This time, he carefully selected casks that had been filled many times over, softening the wood influence and bringing subtle notes of clove and pepper and hints of leather to the fore.
