Description
Neil Ellis has established a sterling reputation for producing elegant, complex, and world class wines from both his own vineyards as well as working with top growers in the Western Cape region of South Africa. He developed the wine label called The Left Bank to produce more approachable and affordable wines than his estate wines under his own name. Predominantly a Bordeaux blend, 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 12% Merlot, and 3% Syrah, the fruit is sourced from several sustainably farmed vineyards in the Stellenbosch, Darling, and Elgin appellations. Neil's son Warren is the winemaker who has crafted a beautiful wine that shows red and blue fruits up front, with a supple mouthfeel that evolves with some dry spices that help to focus the wine and create a sense of balance. The finish is persistent without being clunky or overpowering. This is a perfect way to introduce your friends to South African wines. It's a great food wine that would pair well with anything grilled, or cassoulet, or even on its own! Cheers! - Drew Fuller, Surdyk's Consultant
