St. Bernardus Prior 8 holds the distinction, along with Abt 12 and Pater 6, of being one of the original beers produced, beginning in 1946, for the Abbey of St. Sixtus of Westvleteren. Exhibiting the characteristic St. Bernardus yeast-driven aroma of rummy bananas along with dark, dried fruit and a tropical sweetness, Prior 8 pleases the eye with the hue of rich, dark wood and entices the palate with the well balanced flavors of caramel and chocolate sweetness, warm alcohol,coconut, and overripe banana.
