It's hard to fault Famille Lancon for the old-school label on their Cotes du Rhone Blanc. When you can trace your ancestry directly back to the 17th century pope Urban VIII, you're bound to have a healthy respect for tradition. Those three bees from the family coat of arms featured on the label also adorn some of Rome's most famous landmarks, such as St. Peter's baldachin and the Triton Fountain, which were commissioned by Urban. More relevant to their winemaking bona fides, though, are the roots of another branch of the family, who have owned La Solitude and other vineyards in Chateauneuf-du-Pape since the 15th century. While they still make stunning white wines under the Chateauneuf-du-Pape designation, we're fortunate to be able to offer this excellent white wine from the more modest Cotes du Rhone appellation at a small fraction of the price of those wines. A blend made from three classic Rhone grapes-Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Viognier-it has an alluringly fresh and floral aroma followed by a fruit basket of flavors led by peaches and pears.
