Domaine de Beaurenard Biotifulfox

Description

Wines from the Rhone region in southern France have always appealed to me, from easy drinking Grenache-dominated reds to pricier wines from smaller appellations such as Cote Rotie, St. Joseph, and Chateauneuf-de-Pape. One respected winery from Chateauneuf-de-Pape is Domaine de Beaurenard, where brothers Daniel and Frederic Coulon are the 8th generation owners, and whose vineyards have been certified Demeter Biodynamic and organic since 2010. Daniel’s sons Victor and Antonin have started a newer project called Biotifulfox that allows them to make wine with the same biodynamic farming and winemaking techniques, but from lesser-known areas that make the wine much more affordable. They strive for balance and a style that emphasizes fragrance, delicacy, and minerality. A blend of 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 5% Carignan, the wine shows aromas of red and blue fruits up front, followed by baking spices and Good & Plenty licorice. It is bright and lively on the palate with restrained red fruits, ample minerality, and acidity, followed by a long finish with noticeable fine-grained tannins that dance on your tongue. Powerful yet elegant, this wine sings with joy and is a versatile food wine that will be a hit at your next get together! - Drew Fuller, Surdyk's Consultant
