Description

In my opinion, good Rosé should either be: serious and demand your attention and even some food to accompany, or fun and crushable to be consumed on a hot day by the pool. “Roseblood” by Chateau d’Estoublon is a seriously fun rosé. Two grapes from the trio that put Châteauneuf-du-Pape on the map, namely Grenache and Syrah, are joined by a touch of Cinsault and Rolle (better known by its Italian name of Vermentino) to create this elegant, refined, and delightfully refreshing summer wine. The nose is vibrant with plenty of melon, stone fruit, and a touch of bright strawberry. The terroir of the “limestone heart of Provence” runs a beautiful fault line of minerality down the palate, which gives the wine its structure and trademark French restraint. The Grenache and Syrah show up as truly themselves right at the finish with just the faintest whisper of their classic black pepper and spice as the wine departs the palate. Not usually something I find in Rosé, this complexity could come from the four weeks it spends on fine lees. Whatever the cause is, this is the perfect pairing for Mediterranean dishes like scallops or Salade Niçoise. Or just chuck a couple of bottles in the cooler on the next hot day and head down to the lake to enjoy some fun in the sun!  -Wine Consultant Adam Lowe
