Description
The Villion family of S. Africa have primarily been grape farmers in the Cape of Good Hope ever since the first French Huguenot, Francois Villion, made S. Africa his home in 1671. Their goal is to produce wines of international distinction using careful selection criteria that include vineyard age/location; sustainable farming and natural production methods like spontaneous fermentation; different vine clones; and proximity to the ocean. The core style of the wine remains the same, with a complex nose of ripe black cherry and red berry fruit, floral notes, and cigar box/tobacco spice. The palate shows an intensity and depth of fruit flavors, balanced by dried herbs and spice, framed by fine grained, polished tannins that lead to a focused and LONG finish. - Drew Fuller
