“Does it taste like orange juice…?” “Is it made from oranges…?” Questions I had when I first encountered a bottle of orange wine. Now, after some much needed research, what I thought was a “new” style of winemaking dates back thousands of years. If you’re like me and didn’t know, orange wine is made by fermenting white grapes with their skins for a certain amount of time. This is also why orange wine is technically referred to as “Skin-Contact” wine. During this process, nothing is added and the wine ferments only with the yeast already present in the grape, making most orange wines low-intervention or “natural”.  Malvasía is the grape responsible for this delightfully crisp wine from Spain. Packing quite the punch, a pronounced aroma of flowers, stone fruit, and citrus accompany this amber colored wine. Fresh, ripe apricot and juicy white peach blend together to make a mouth-watering combination. A long, beautiful finish will quench any thirst and because of the skin contact, a healthy dose of tannins provides the structure this wine needs to pair well with just about anything. ¡Salud! 121213
