Many of our customers ask for a recommendation for an “affordable” Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, which is increasingly difficult since the vineyard land in the valley is some of the most expensive in the world. We added RouteStock Cabernet Sauvignon to satisfy our customers’ desire for value and still provide a great example of Napa Cab. At RouteStock, they practice a minimalist winemaking philosophy using native yeasts, natural malolactic fermentation, and no chemical additions. They form long-term relationships with five top quality grape growers, hailing from the cooler Yountville and Coombsville regions, the warmer St. Helena, the mountainous Mt. Veeder, and the valley floor Rutherford. The blend of 92% Cab is joined by small amounts of Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot to add complexity and balance, and then aged for 15 months in French oak. The beautiful nose shows black fruits, mocha, espresso, and plum. Flavors of cassis, chocolate, dried herbs, and a touch of vanilla/oak. The wine is both powerful and elegant, with a rich palate balanced by vibrant acidity that leads to a looonng finish! Pair with aged cheeses and anything grilled.
