When you combine the influence of Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti fame and the iconic Hyde Vineyard in Carneros, magic is bound to happen. This is lightning in a bottle, year after year. Great energy and verve yet rich fruit flavors the vineyard is known for. This is far from a butter bomb – it’s what California Chardonnay can be when oak is used to polish and not shape a wine. When I first had this wine, I kept blind tasting it and calling it Meursault. I probably wouldn’t do that anymore (I’ve learned), but on any given day it might happen again. And I wouldn’t be mad about it.
