For some reason many wine drinkers are inclined to view California Chardonnay as if time stopped 15 years ago, when far too many winemakers assumed that all Chardonnay should be oaky and buttery. Fortunately, over the last 15 years we have seen the emergence of more balanced wines that accurately reflect where the grapes are grown – from oaky and buttery styles, to fruity and easy drinking, and to stainless steel fermented Chardonnays that are crisp and lively. It is this last style that Chamisal Vineyards adopts to help reflect the ocean influenced vineyards of the Central Coast, from Monterey to San Luis Obispo. This bright acidity is the key to this wine, as the tropical notes of mango and papaya are highlighted by crisp apple and refreshing minerality. The wine finishes clean and vibrant with a lingering finish, and will pair perfectly with creamy pastas, risottos, and soft cheeses.
