I love this bottle so very much that I may as well admit that it is my favorite… white wine from France, that is. Its versatility makes it a great choice year-round. The crisp zestiness takes the edge off the heat in the dog days of summer and during the chillier winter months, its vibrancy brings a bit of joy and sunshine. The bottle is elegant enough to class up any dinner party. Pouilly-Fumé is smoky, mineral, and a bit rounder in body - fumé is the French word for smoke. If you love Sauvignon Blanc but want to try something different, this is your bottle. Sauvignon Blancs from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé are really different from their friends. The grape in this wine is Sauvignon Blanc, the same grape used in those fruit-forward, easy-drinking Marlborough wines and the citrusy domestic sippers. All are delicious, but each is subtly different. Sauvignon Blancs from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé tend to be more restrained, mineral, herbaceous, and less fruity. This helps keep the wine's elegance and aromas of the grape. This is one of my go-to recommendations for people looking for something to pair with shellfish or just by itself.
