Description

"When Spring approaches, warmer weather signals the return of grilling and boldly flavored meals cooked over fire and smoke. These dishes call for an equally bold wine, and few are better suited than Zinfandel. In Lodi, California, gnarled old vines over 100 years old produce small yields of intensely flavored grapes, resulting in powerful yet balanced wines marked by dark fruit, lush tannins, and bright acidity. I’m not a fan of overly extracted Zinfandels driven solely by brute power, which is why the Alveo Zinfandel from Klinker Brick Winery stands out. Its rich dark fruit is beautifully balanced by lively acidity and a long, velvety finish. Founded in 2000 by Steve and Lori Felton, Klinker Brick continues five generations of grape farming dating back to 1893. The winery farms 750 acres sustainably in the Lodi AVA and now includes the sixth generation of the Felton family. In the glass, Alveo shows a light purple hue with aromas of red and black fruit, earth, baking spices, and vanilla. The palate is rich, focused, and silky. Pair with grilled foods, meat-sauced pastas, blue cheese, aged Cheddar or Gouda—and finish with flourless Chocolate Cake from the Cheese Shop. An outstanding value Zin for picnics and dinner parties. Cheers!" -Wine Consultant, Drew Fuller
