Bodegas Vinessens “Sein”

The wines from Spain represent an incredible value at both the high end of the price/quality spectrum as well as the
introductory end. Traditional winemaking techniques using indigenous grapes combine to make world famous wines from heralded wine regions such as Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Priorat. In addition to these traditional wines, the trend over the past 5-7 years has been the emergence of lesser known wine producing regions throughout Spain. The wineries in these
emerging regions have a healthy respect for tradition, yet they eagerly embrace modern winemaking and farming
practices. The 2011 Sein is one such wine. Alicante is located in the southeast corner of the country near Valencia. Sein is a red blend of 60% Monastrell and 40% Syrah and is aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. Inky black in color, with bold aromas of licorice, plum, blackberry, cigar box, and spice. Dark fruit flavors on the palate and sweet, integrated tannins are all balanced by good acidity – due to Alicante’s climate, which sees severe summer temperature fluctuations that preserve the lively acidity and beautiful aromas. Give this beautiful wine a try and experience the passion of Spanish winemakers for both tradition and innovation. It will pair wonderfully with paella, grilled steak, and aged cheeses.
