Description

Minnesota winters are seemingly endless, and many of us long for white sandy beaches, clear, aquamarine ocean waters, bright, hot sunshine, and something cool, crisp and refreshing to drink while enjoying all of this natural abundance. While I can’t help you with most of that vision, I can heartily recommend a beautifully crisp and yet full bodied white wine that hails from just such a place. Sella & Mosca 2013 La Cala is the ultimate expression of the Vermentino grape and is grown in the northwest corner of the island of Sardinia off the coast of Italy. La Cala is romantically named for a small, secluded cove fringed by violet covered thistles on the edge of the Sella & Mosca estate. The aromas are very intense with citrus fruits of lemon, grapefruit, and orange with pronounced floral notes. This is a wine full of life and a youthful zesty quality that also displays a subtle marine salinity due to the vineyard’s proximity to the Mediterranean. I love to pair this wine with oysters, and indeed all shellfish and seafood. It will also work perfectly with appetizers, creamy risotto, and pasta. Salute! -Drew Fuller, Wine Consultant
