Description
Joao Portugal Ramos comes from a winemaking family and was a consultant to wineries throughout Portugal before starting his own winery in Portugal’s southern region of Alentejo in 1990. For this blend, the grape varieties are largely unfamiliar to most wine drinkers in the U.S., but they combine to become something we should become more familiar with. To me, this wine has two distinct virtues – one, it’s easy to like but different in specific dark fruit and spice flavors from anything else and two, it’s versatile. Because the body, fruit, and spice elements all tend to medium intensity, the wine seems to go with a wide variety of cheeses, sausages, and even grilled meats.
