"The wines of Cahors are made predominantly with the local variant of Malbec.  This particular bottling runs a touch more rustic than the wines from Chateau Eugenie.  In this context, that means the wine is a little more tannic, not quite as polished, and a touch more earthy.  We like this wine a lot for those reasons as it is perhaps a better example of what the wines from this appellation are really like.  Only a handful of producers are making Cahors in a “modern” style, and those are the brands most often exported to American markets.  This more rustic style is unusual here.  Showing strong concentration, dark but fresh, the flavors run from blackberry to savory, dried meats.  The finish is strong and uncompromising." -Andy Hall, Surdyk's Wine Buyer & Consultant
