(Rioja) We have carried the "basic" Montecillo Rioja for years, and we love it. When this arrived on the shelf, I was intrigued. I love Spanish wines, I love Rioja...but this Reserva (indicating a required minimum barrel and bottle age before release) sits at the unusual bargain price of $15.99. Ever the cynic, my thoughts were "How good can this be?". Turns out this isn't just good, it is GREAT! The brilliance of this wine is that there is all of this aromatic elements, raspberry, cedar, spice - and all this flavor, earth, fruit and toast on a medium body weight. Not heavy and syrupy, just perfect. Once again, Spain knocks it out of the park. Pair with Chicken Thighs rubbed with Chipotle-Fig Jam. - Noelle Starr, Wine Consultant
