Description
This wine has made a believer out of me. A believer that Chardonnay is one of the most versatile and interesting grapes in the world. If you read that and roll your eyes - fine by me! But most people have written this grape off as only being able to produce heavy, almost sweet, overly oaked juice. Chablis could not be farther from that description. Part of Burgundy but actually located north, way away from the rest is this lovely area of mineral filled vineyards that when combined with the cold climate create some of the most bracing, steely, fresh Chardonnays in the world. Louis Michel has been doing this for a long time and I find that every time I open this bottle, it makes me catch my breath. Apple, slate, saline and slight mushroom are so very intoxicating - and that is all before you take a sip! Plain and simple - this is a lovely wine. Pair this with Mussels in White Wine. Noelle Starr
