Special Guest Tasting with Giesen Wines
September 5 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Surdyk’s welcomes Roscoe Johanson, Giesen Group Global Brand Ambassador from 4-7pm for a tasting of their New Zealand wines.
Roscoe Johanson is the consummate host, a result of his 20-year background in hospitality management, sales negotiation, and marketing management – and his passion for Marlborough wines!
As the Giesen Group Brand Ambassador, Roscoe’s job is sharing the story of our brands to help people around the world fall in love with Marlborough wine – not such a hard gig really!
Roscoe’s ambassadorial title belies his business and wine industry knowledge. His vast experience includes; managing hotels and cafes, key account management, responsibility for managing tender processes, managing duty-free accounts, negotiating sponsorship and working alongside distributors in multiple export markets to develop distribution and effective sales and marketing initiatives.
Roscoe joined the Giesen Group in 2009, initially in Sydney as the company’s Australian Marketing Manager before returning to his native New Zealand to live in Marlborough in 2012.
In the picturesque Marlborough, Roscoe draws upon two decades of food, wine, and hospitality experience to ensure the Cellar Door team delivers a world-class experience. This drive has made the Giesen Cellar Door one of Marlborough’s must-do attractions. This same attention to detail is obvious in the itineraries and experiences he manages for international distributors, sales partners, and media.
Passionate about all things Marlborough, Roscoe was on the organizing committee of the successful International Sauvignon Blanc Celebrations in 2016 and returned to help plan and organize the 2019 event.
When it comes to relaxing, Roscoe says it doesn’t get any better than hitting Marlborough’s mountain bike tracks or taking his boat into the Marlborough Sounds to fish or find remote bays to picnic and explore with his partner Natalia and their three children. During the fishing season, he’ll often be found fly fishing in some of New Zealand’s remote wilderness rivers – many of which are upon his Marlborough doorstep.
