Fall always seems to be a season Minnesotans can’t get enough of. For one, it’s fleeting. It’s hard to pack all the great flavors and activities in before winter starts to show its face once again. This year, there’s even more for our state to be excited about, and specifically our neighborhood, as TCF Bank is set to host its sixth season with the Golden Gophers,
and its very first season with the Minnesota Vikings. With football comes tailgating, and the array of food and beverages to go with it. Conveniently located two miles from the stadium, Surdyk’s has everything you need to get the party started.
The perfect beverage to fit the occasion is Tailgate beer. Blacktop Blonde and their Session IPA are sure to fit everyone’s taste buds. Blacktop Blonde has subtle spice, golden malts, and is an easy drinking ale, whereas Session IPA is fully flavored and an aggressively hoppy beer.
If you’re doing it right, tailgating is an all-day event. And you can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning. That’s where the necessary Bloody Mary comes in. Why not make it local? Minnesota produces plenty of tasty ingredients to make the best hair-of-the-dog cocktail. Minneapolis’ own Prairie Vodka is the perfect place to start. Mix it with family owned and famous McClure’s Bloody Mary Mixer; if you have never tried this and you like a punch of flavor, heat, and pickle brine, this is for you! Don’t forget the best part: the skewer! Stop in our cheese shop for a variety of olives, from garlic stuffed to popular Spanish style, marinated in peppers and preserved lemons. For the cheese, you must try Evalon goat Cheese Curds from Wisconsin; you’ll then know why Evalon is a U.S. Champion cheese contest winner. If you still have room after all this goodness, stick in a piece of Cool Jerk Beef Jerky, a local Minneapolis favorite.
Having guests and not in the mood to cook? As always, Surdyk’s Catering is happy to do the work for you. Tailgating is all about finger food! Our Honey Mustard Chicken Skewers are always a hit at every party. Tiger shrimp with saffron aioli, spicy harissa, or classic cocktail sauce puts an upscale twist on your basic shrimp cocktail. Don’t forget our coveted dips as well, featuring hummus, baba ghanoush, Tuscan white bean, marinated Chèvre, smoky romesco, and the classic creamy spinach artichoke. Along with our famous cheese trays, we also have Antipasti, Salumi, Spanish Tapas, and many more platters that are easy to take out of the fridge for your guests to munch on throughout the game. Did you know you can order all of these trays online? Check out the info HERE.
If you find yourself coming to the neighborhood to cheer on the Gophers or Vikings, don’t forget that every Saturday we have tastings in our aisles to help you find what truly strikes your fancy. Surdyk’s has been your hometown team since 1934, and we are committed to making any sporting event and weekend a success—no matter what team you’re cheering for.
