How do you celebrate New Year’s Eve? A quiet evening for two? A dinner with a handful of your closest friends? Or do you throw the New Year’s party to end all parties? However you choose to ring in 2015, one thing is certain – you must have bubbly. Surdyk’s has one of the largest selections of sparkling wines in the Midwest and our knowledgeable wine staff has picked the perfect bottle of bubbles to fit whatever your party style (or budget) needs.
For the crowd: Torre Oria Cava
While we’d all like to pop the good stuff, when you are serving a crowd you need to be sure that the price and the product are beyond great. Made from the Spanish grape Macabeo, this bottle of cava will impress even the biggest wine snobs in attendance. Made in the same method as French Champagne, this starts off aromatically enticing with notes of berry, wild flower and crisp apple. The palate follows suit and offers a suppleness that plays off of the delicate bubbles. Perfect for pouring and toasting – and remarkably food friendly. At this price you can pop bottles to your heart’s content. BUY NOW
For the dinner party: Gloria Ferrar Sonoma Brut
This is Gloria Ferrar’s signature house blend made mostly of Pinot Noir with a bit of Chardonnay blended in. The wine spent 18 months on the lees which provides a toasty, creamy complexity to the delicate notes of pear, apple and cinnamon spice. Serious enough to go from appetizers featuring smoked salmon, to a main course of any form of seafood, and all the way to a cheese course that includes decadent triple cream Brie. 90 Points – Wine Spectator, August 2014 BUY NOW
For an intimate evening for two: A. Margaine Demi-Sec Champagne
If ever there was an occasion to open a true French Champagne – New Year’s Eve spent with someone special is it. Margaine Demi-Sec is a grower Champagne with fruit sourced Arnaud Margaine’s tiny 15 acre vineyard in the Champagne village of Viller-Marmery. Boutique in every sense of the word with less than 5,000 cases made annually. This is a treat for the senses. The nose is charming with white flowers, pear and crisp apple. The flavor echoes aromatics and the designation of “demi-sec” on the label indicates that a light, barely-there sweetness exists. Perfectly balanced, this sits smack between mineral and almost sweet and is one of the loveliest Champagnes we have in our store. BUY NOW
These, and all of our great sparkling wines and Champagne are on sale through December 31. Cheers to that!
