When November and the cool, dark evenings come around , we crave a glass of red wine. We’re featuring a few of our favorites
A great deal of attention has been paid to the category of Blended Red, but few of them have succeeded in the way that this bottling has. Made by Joe Tensley from hand-selected parcels of Rhone varietals (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre). There are a lot of wines in the blended style that you can choose from, but this one delivers the quality and complexity that we hope for from a wine that asks us to pay a little more. Kudos to them, and happy drinking to us. — Andy Hall (90 pts – Wine Enthusiast) (#110482) Regular Price: $21.99
“Phantom” boasts a mysterious and intoxicating blend of 46% Petite Sirah, 40% Zinfandel, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Mourvedre all aged for over 2 years in oak barrels. Powerful and robust, showcasing ripe blackberries, briary boysenberries, black pepper and juniper spices. From the shadows, nutmeg, cinnamon and tobacco notes eerily emerge on the long-structured finish. Tannins are present but not biting on the spice-laden finish. Great now and will cellar nicely for 2 to 4 years. Consistently a “Best Buy” in the trades. Perfect for grilled or roasted meats and blue cheeses.
Cline Cashmere “Black Magic”
A California-made and Rhone-inspired blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre with the addition of inky Petite Sirah. An alluring blend of grapes from ancient vines that create a spellbinding libation with notes of dark berries, chocolate, hints of black pepper and plum. This is a bold and intense mouthful of wine.
St. Francis Red Splash
RED SPLASH is a versatile red wine that is luscious, full-flavored and full-bodied. The blend changes with each vintage, but each variety in the blend is harvested from 100% handpicked fruit from the finest California appellations. After fermentation and barrel aging, a blend is created to accentuate known varieties. This incredible value wine proves that sophistication need not be pricey.
