Leyda Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is able to grow almost anywhere in the wine world and because of that, there is a wide spectrum of “styles” for this grape – everything from New Zealand’s signature grapefruit aromas to France’s tell-tale minerality. Chile’s style sits somewhere in between. The Leyda Valley is tucked into hillsides of Chile’s coastal mountain range. 2016 was the coolest vintage on record, which contributes to the explosive aromatics and intense acidity of the wine. A hint of green pepper shows up on the nose along with definite citrus – but more lime zest and lemon oil than grapefruit. The palate shows more citrus as well as bright herbaceousness. There are definite mineral tones on the finish, which reminds me of the slatey-brisk Sauv Blancs of the
Loire Valley. Made with estate-grown fruit from Leyda’s El Maiten vineyard. Not only is this an excellent representation of what Chile brings to the table, it’s also an incredible example of Sauvignon Blanc.
