Zweigelt is a cross of St. Laurent and Blaufrankish, two of Austria’s most popular red grapes. Weingut Berger has been producing wine since 1970. This is not your everyday Zweigelt as this is some of the best grapes Berger harvests and it is aged for one year in oak vats. The wine displays aromatics of ripe red currants, cherries and sweet oak. On the plate, its medium-bodied, with red currant and cherry flavors laced with bright acidity and zingy spice notes on the long finish. A hearty Goulash would pair perfectly or Stuffed Cabbage Rolls. And since it’s too cold to be any place else but home, you’ll enjoy a liter size bottle for an extra couple of pours.
